My name is Hannah and what an experience and an honor it is to be Delta Iota’s Membership Chair for 2018 Recruitment. I knew, serving as Delta Iota’s Assistant Membership Chair last year was special. It certainly helped to prepare me for fulfilling this year’s responsibilities. However, I have found serving and again working alongside my chapter sisters, as a leader has surpassed my expectations of sorority life.
2017 Recruitment was a huge success for LSU’s Kappa Kappa Gamma Chapter. We welcomed into the chapter, in excess of 100 new members with a plethora of personalities and backgrounds. Truly, it is exciting to see our LSU Chapter grow in diversity and distinctiveness. For months, my team and I have been working hard to ensure that the upcoming 2018 Recruitment exceeds and expands what has been achieved in the past.
As it stands now, LSU’s Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter is comprised of 300 young women with hometowns spanning from coast to coast and hobbies, including everything from playing the harmonica to being a member of the LSU Golden Girls to biomedical engineering to eating excess amounts of junk food!
With certainty I was aware, during my own recruitment experience in 2014 that LSU’s Kappa Chapter was characterized by openness and inclusiveness. These values are what originally attracted me to Kappa, enticing me to make Kappa my home away from home during my college years.
There is a welcoming and inviting spirit that defines our members. Kappas are known for their genuine sense of self and originality. When meeting chapter members for the first time I was impressed with the ease of conversation. The lack of scripts during introductions and the approachable atmosphere was a welcome change. Active members gladly shared their true interest and support of their philanthropies, social functions and above all sisterhood.
With each additional visit to the Kappa house during rush week, I found myself falling into my own niche. There were girls I could relate to and girls I wanted to get to know. There were people with similar backgrounds and people whose circumstances differed from mine. However, everyone excitedly shared a common commitment to Kappa. All of this inspired me to put Kappa on the top of my bid list. I was blown away and beyond ecstatic when Kappa felt the same way!
Being a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Chapter has been a dream come true!
I know the friendships formed will last my lifetime serving me personally and professionally. I know the academic and social standards that have been instilled in me will continue to serve me well past my collegiate years. The joy of philanthropic service I know will always bless me in return. The Sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma are constantly inspiring and encouraging me to grow and develop into the successful woman I was meant to be.
Recruitment 2018 is right around the corner. In several weeks’ time, you will have the same opportunity as I did in 2015, choosing which sisterhood suits you. It is my desire, that you follow your heart and bid on the sorority that is best for you.
Forget the stress and have some fun!
After rush week is over, I hope you are as overjoyed with your selection as I was with mine 3 years ago.
The Golden Key and the ladies of Kappa certainly won my heart and I hope they win yours too.
